データストレージ、スピントロニクス、エネルギー・環境分野で用いられる磁性材料に関する研究。具体的には、次世代ハードディスクドライブ用磁気記録媒体・再生ヘッド用磁気センサーの開発、重希土類元素を使わない高特性磁石材料の開発を最先端の原子レベル解析手法を駆使しつつ行う。
