グラフェン類似の新しい2次元ナノ物質の創製と、そのエレクトロニクス、環境・エネルギー分野への応用を目指した研究。具体的には独自の層状物質剥離技術を用いて酸化物を中心としたナノシートを合成するとともに、これを人工集積することで、高機能誘電体、触媒等、新奇な機能性材料を開発する。
